About: Rituals Matcha was founded by Anni in 2020 as a way to bring the beloved Japanese beverage to the Middle East. Anni was born in Germany and has lived in several different countries. In 2015 she traveled to Japan and fell in love with matcha. Anni found matcha supplies limited when living in Dubai and so she started sourcing matcha directly from a small female-owned matcha farm in Uji, Kyoto. This eventually led to formally starting Rituals Matcha in 2020, which has now expanded to London with world wide shipping. At the time of this review, Rituals carried a Ceremonial matcha blend in a couple of sizes, as well as a few matcha tools. My favorite is the rose-gold matcha sieve. Rituals also makes a point to use all recyclable shipping materials.

Tasting and Scoring Rituals Matcha
Scent: Earthy
Color: The powder is over all bright, slightly toward yellow on the color spectrum when compared to other powders. The liquor (tea liquid) was a typical dark green, indicating a fresh powder with some imperfections. Points 4
Foam + Texture: The matcha frothed quickly, with a loosely woven foam and some bubble variation. Usucha texture is thin and smooth. The blend was highly astringent with a shorter finish. Points 3
Taste: A pronounced toasted and bitter flavor traditional to Japanese green tea, along with grassy and slight berry notes. A slight umami and sweet flavor linger in the finish. Points 2.75
Final Score: 3.25 out of 5 points
Thoughts: Rituals Matcha Ceremonial blend works well as a latte preparation. It has a pretty bold energy and when paired with milk provides a strong boost for physical labor or a workout. Although the packaging is beautiful, I hold concern about using a clear glass jar for matcha storage. In my experience, matcha stays fresh longer when kept in an opaque container. However, if you drink your matcha fast and store it in the refrigerator between use, the glass container should not be an issue for you.
