About: Unlike most matcha companies, Matcha DNA sources their tencha from China. Although matcha originated in China, its cultivation and perfection were developed in Japan. Sourcing organic matcha from China makes Matcha DNA unique.
Price: $14.95 per 56.7 grams on Amazon
Smell: Grassy and hay like, red-flag regarding the flavor.
Color: The powder is light and toward yellow on the color spectrum. The liquor (tea liquid) was muted and also toward yellow hues. Points 2
Foam + Texture: The blend is quick to foam, but the bubbles are of great variation and the crema remains thin. The texture is chalky. Points 1.5
Taste: The main flavors of the blend are bitter and grassy. The grassiness has a dried hay quality, whereas the bitterness has a sour finish. The other tastes such as roasted and sweet are fairly over powered by the bitter and grassy notes. Points 1.5
Final Score: 1.7 out of 5 points
Thoughts: Although this is an organic blend, it is really hard for me to legitimize the claim that this is a ceremonial grade matcha. The flavor intensity is in all the wrong places and out of balance. The color is off, as is the texture. For some, this blend could work in lattes, especially with high fat beverages. Personally, this is something I would use in baking instead of drinking.
